Makeup in Australia is so goddamn expensive. With me being the stereotypical stingy bargain-hunting Asian, I am forced to purchase my cosmetics elsewhere. I often hit up the well known site StrawberryNET, and recently made an order from another favourite called Kiss and Makeup NY.

Kiss and Makeup is the site I gravitate towards when looking to shop for Nars, Smashbox or Laura Mercier. While they carry far fewer brands than StrawberryNET, they usually have the full range of products and colours. They offer a $9.95 flat rate on worldwide shipping, so my advice is to find a friend or two and split the shipping cost. The parcel does take a while to get to Sydney, as you would expect from a something coming from America. Nothing has ever been broken or damaged, all products are wrapped well and arrive safe and sound. Overall, I would highly recommend this site for Aussies who want to buy American makeup at American retail prices!

This time round, I exercised some degree of willpower and only ordered two products, both of which I feel would be perfect for the summer – a lipstick from Nars and a cream blush trio from Smashbox.

Wheeeeeee new goodies :D

Nars Lipstick in Schiap ($24)

This lipstick is in the ‘semi matte’ formula, and the shade is described by Nars themselves as being a ‘shocking matte pink’. I would have to agree with them – this is the most amazing and brightest pink lipstick I own, only to be worn during the day by the brave! It is incredibly pigmented and stays all day (probably due to the matte formula), but unlike most matte lipsticks, I don’t find it to be uncomfortable or drying on the lips. The only downside is that the drier formula can make it a little hard to apply. If you are fan of the colour but would like to try something more moisturising and glossy (and inexpensive!), I’d recommend Rimmel’s lipstick in Lily Extase from their Moisture Renew line.

Why I can’t wait to wear this all summer long:

  • Matte (with a slight sheen) but not drying
  • Super long-lasting
  • Outstanding and  fun bright pop of pink
  • Amazingly highly pigmented
  • No weird scent or taste

Oooft…dat pink!

Smashbox Be Discovered Cream Cheek Trio in In Lights ($29)

This trio is apparently one of Smashbox’s most popular cult products. It has three cheek creams in three gorgeous shades – a warm coral, a sparkling bronzy rose colour and a shimmery highlighter. I may not have delved very far into the realm of cream blushes but this is the best formula I have ever tried. It gives off a naturally healthy looking glow, but is not at all greasy or sticky. The colours are pigmented but can easily be sheered and blended out, and you can also mix the colours to create your own unique shade.

Why I can’t wait to wear this all summer long:

  • Stunning natural warm tones
  • Easy to apply
  • Blendable
  • Beautiful dewy finish
  • Long-lasting
  • Will suit me both now and when I am tan

Definitely a new favourite
